Our works on the MOEEBIUS Holistic Energy Performance Optimization Framework are significantly advanced, but there is a need for validation of the developed solutions in real-life conditions over an extensive 20-month pilot roll-out period (that includes equipment and systems installations, base-lining activities, models and systems calibration and actual validation of MOEEBIUS in real-life situations) in a variety of buildings and building blocks.
In order to verify their parameters, a three large-scale pilot sites have been chosen. They are located in Portugal, UK and Serbia and incorporate diverse building typologies (office, retail, educational, sports, residential, hotel), heterogeneous energy systems and spanning diverse climatic conditions.
In UK, MOEEBIUS will be tested in two different buildings, among which Moor House – a large office building on London Wall in the City of London – can be found. It is located on the northern edge of the financial district and is one of the largest buildings in the area, standing 84 metres (276 ft) tall and with 29,000 square metres of floor space. Completed in 2004, it was the first building to be designed for the forthcoming Crossrail, with a ventilation shaft to the station underneath the building. When built, it had the deepest foundations in London, which reach down 57 metres (187 ft) and are specifically designed to withstand further tunneling below it in the future. It was designed by Sir Normal Foster.
The opportunities offered by MOEEBIUS solution will be also validated in Ernest Dence which is a residential estate in the heart of Greenwich Council. The estate was finished in 1937 and comprises of 3 separate buildings: Aylmer House (64 flats), Jennings House (20 Flats) and Gifford House (20 flats). It offers a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom property and is served by a community heating centre placed in the middle of the inner court.
The high diversification of the presented pilot sites offer a representative variety of requirements that will verify the soundness and robustness of the validation process, whilst enhancing the transferability and replication potential of the project innovations.
