Modelling Optimization of Energy Efficiency in Buildings for Urban Sustainability

MOEEBIUS introduces a Holistic Energy Performance Optimization Framework that enhances current modelling approaches and delivers innovative simulation tools which deeply grasp and describe real-life building operation complexities in accurate simulation predictions that significantly reduce the “performance gap” and enhance multi-fold, continuous optimization of building energy performance as a means to further mitigate and reduce the identified “performance gap” in real-time or through retrofitting.


In this task the local (building level) and global (district level) energy performance models required by the Enhanced BEPS, the building and district level DAE-s and by the Integrated MOEEBIUS DSS to represent, simulate and evaluate the energy performance of buildings and complete districts, have been developed. The report also describes the procedure to dynamically update the values of the key thermal parameters of the EnergyPlus models with the actual information of each specific building has been defined. In addition, the document presents procedure which provides the ability to building models to exactly reproduce the complexities of the actual buildings by addressing areas and aspects that are dominated by assumptions (e.g. infiltrations, etc.). With this approach MOEEBIUS ensures the delivery of more dynamic and representative holistic models (without increasing significantly the introduced complexity) with the capacity to minimize deviations between predicted and actual building performance.
